How constructors find a Falloff.
Falloff names #
- Every Falloff has a Falloff Name (default
Falloff). - It writes a 0-1 value onto each piece under that name. Constructors below it read that name.
- Give several Falloffs the same name to layer them. The top one is the base. Each one below blends onto it with its Blend and Opacity.
- With color on, a Falloff also writes
<Falloff Name> Color. A constructor reads it with Color Mode > Falloff Color. - A Freeze layer goes below the Falloff it should hold, with the same Falloff Name.
How a constructor picks a Falloff #
Every constructor has two inputs at the top:
| Input | What it does |
|---|---|
| Falloff Mode | Stagger, Falloff, Both or None. None is the default: full effect on every piece |
| Falloff | The name picker |
- Stagger uses the built-in stagger (the Animate value in the Stagger panel).
- Falloff uses a Falloff’s weight. Both multiplies the two.
Attribute mode and Single Value #
- The Falloff picker is a drop-down of names. This is attribute mode. Use it.
- The small icon on the right of the field swaps it for a single number. That is Single Value mode: the number only scales the effect for every piece equally. It does not read any Falloff.
- Most other inputs have no such icon. They take a single value only.
If you see X, do Y
A constructor ignores your Falloff? Check three things: the Falloff sits above it, Falloff Mode is Falloff or Both, and the picker is still in attribute mode and shows the right name.
Falloff shapes #
One Falloff component, nine shapes: Sphere, Box, Cylinder, Linear, Noise, Object, Spline, Vertex Map and Radial. See Falloffs and Helpers.
Mesh Points #
A Falloff can also write onto mesh points, into a vertex group, for Displace and other modifiers (Target: Mesh Points). The group must exist. Use Falloff Helpers > Create Falloff Vertex Groups. Put Mesh Points Falloffs above the Ingestor: the Ingestor turns the mesh into pieces, so nothing is left to write to.
