How It Works

Formations, Falloffs, Constructors, Delay: top to bottom.

The stack #

Ordimus components are Geometry Nodes modifiers. Read the modifier stack top to bottom:

Layer What goes here What it does
Formation Text Generator, Cloner, Ingestor Makes pieces
Falloffs Falloff, Freeze Write named 0-1 values onto the pieces
Constructors Simple, Random, Step, Time, … Move, rotate, scale and color the pieces
Delay Delay Lags everything above it. Always last

Three rules #

  1. A Formation turns your object into pieces. Pieces are instances. Everything below it works on pieces, not vertices. Constructors need them.
  2. Constructors read the rest position. Every piece remembers where it started, so constructors add instead of compounding. Three Simple constructors that each lift 1 m give 3 m.
  3. A Falloff only affects constructors below it. A Falloff writes a named value. A constructor reads it only when its Falloff Mode is set to Falloff (or Both) and its Falloff picker shows that name.

Remember

Order is the whole mechanism: Formation, then Falloffs, then Constructors, then Delay.

Where to go next #

  • Add Component: add each layer.
  • Falloffs and Names: how a constructor finds a Falloff.
  • Constructors: every constructor at a glance.
