Export settings that keep your shapes intact.
Before you export (Illustrator) #
- Outline all text. Expand appearance. Flatten effects.
- Keep compound paths intact. They make the holes in letters.
- Keep your group structure. It becomes your Outliner structure, and it is how you animate.
- Name your groups before you export. Group by motion, not by category: put things that move together in the same group.
- Remove buried, hidden or empty paths.
Export settings #
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Decimal places | 6 or more |
| Responsive | Off |
| Presentation attributes | On |
| Minify | Off |
Low decimal precision pulls neighboring points onto each other and can break a letter shape now and then. Six or more is the correct setting, not a workaround.
Not supported #
<use>, <image>, <text>, <switch> and <foreignObject>. The importer refuses them rather than guess, so remove them before you export.
Remember
If the fix you are reaching for is “go back to Illustrator and regroup”, try extruding at Group Level 0 first, and regroup in Blender with Group Rigs. See Group Rigs and Group Levels.
