Keep the viewport fast.
Bake #
Extruded rigs rebuild from their curves on every frame. Bake freezes the extrusion into each rig’s mesh, which is much faster. Constructors, Falloffs and keyframes stay live.
- Ordimus tab > Helpers > Bake / Unbake Rigs. One button: live rigs bake, baked rigs unbake.
- Depth is fixed until you unbake. Leave Bake off while you are still dialing Depth in.
- You can also tick Bake in the Extrude Curves dialog.
- Per Piece rigs are curve objects and do not bake.
Hide the source curves #
In Extrude Curves, Source Curves has three choices:
| Choice | Result |
|---|---|
| Leave Visible | Sources stay as they are |
| Hide | Hidden in the viewport, still in the Outliner. The default |
| Exclude | Out of the view layer and the Outliner. Rigs keep working. Fastest |
Slow viewport? In this order #
| Setting | Cost |
|---|---|
| Cloner > Voxel Amount (Volume) | Cubic. Doubling is eight times the work. 32-64 is plenty |
| Shader > Flow | Six more pattern samples per piece (twelve with Loop Period) |
| Shader > Preview Resolution | Squared. 64 is plenty |
| Push Apart > Iterations | Iterations times pieces |
| Preview helpers | Show Falloff, Show Radius, Show Target, Show Volume, Show Noise never render, but cost viewport time. Turn them off when done |
Delay is a simulation #
Delay and Freeze depend on the frames before the current one. Play from the start frame, or bake. Toggle Delays (Helpers panel) switches Delay constructors off and back on in the viewport while you work. Apply To (Auto, Selection, Collection, Scene) is in the Adjust Last Operation panel.
Restack after a depth change #
If you change Depth on a rig after extruding, run Restack Rigs (SVG Rigs panel). It re-lays the Z layout from each rig’s current Depth.
